Michael and Sallie were married during the fall in a romantic ceremony designed in neutral shades with pops of slate blue. The couple enlisted the help of Alexandra Madison Weddings and the talents of loved ones to add personal, meaningful touches throughout. I love how they incorporated their two fur kids, Lila and Bear, into their stationery, reception and photos – captured by Carly Jade Photography. The cutest!
Their reception featured beautiful light blue shimmer table runners, slate blue cocktail linens and fun floral champagne table linen.
Love Story: Michael and I actually met through my sister and her fiance Curtis, she loves taking full credit! Curtis and Michael attended the Citadel together. Kayla and Curtis who live in Charleston were visiting me in Columbia one weekend for a USC football game. While in town Curtis reached out to Michael. The rest is history, but I’m always thankful for that Gamecock Football weekend! 🙂
Family is extremely important to me and Michael chose to surprise me with all of our family and friends hiding in my parents’ house while he took me down to the lake I grew up on. He acted like it was just a regular day taking our two dogs Lila & Bear down by the water to play. He threw the ball once and then got down on one knee and I couldn’t have been happier. Of course, I said yes and then we celebrated with all the of the people that mean the most to us!
Slate Blue Wedding – with Pups!
One of my favorite details of the day was my sister, Kayla’s custom artwork. She is so talented! Kayla started by painting the venue which we used for our save the dates & she framed to display at the reception. She then painted our fur babies in beautiful detailed floral hoops for the wedding invitation and was able to incorporate those paintings in our programs, bar signs & koozies. It was a very special detail for us!
I put all of my faith in Susan Shaw at Flowers Naturally who was able to match my personality and Pinterest pictures I showed her to make magic happen. She used the neutral tones of the bridesmaids’ dresses and made it come to life by incorporating whites, greens, blues and beautiful flowing ribbons. I can’t say enough good things about Susan Shaw!
I wore a simple, classic v-cut white dress with lace/beaded backing and cap sleeves from New York Bride and Groom of Columbia. I wore a beautiful necklace as a gift from the groom.
My hair was styled by Lauren from Wesley’s Salon. She is my cousin and has always known how to make me look my best. She has done my hair for events throughout my life so there was no doubt she’d be the one to do my hair on my wedding day. I am very thankful for her!
The bridesmaid wore dusty-gray, v-neck dresses from Bella Bridesmaid Columbia.
My uncle, Gene, officiated the ceremony, which was so special to me that he could be a part of our big day! We kept our wedding ceremony decor pretty simple. We had two white church pews on the front rows and wood chairs behind. The end chairs on the aisles were tied with flowers and flowing ribbons.
My uncle, Butch, also helped out and made a beautiful gold circular archway draped with a white chiffon cloth. I was very lucky to have so much help from all of my family members. We had a violinist and cellist that played all our ceremony music perfectly.
Michael wore a sharp blue suit with light blue & white tie from Granger Owings. He had a special monogram pocket square as a gift from the bride 🙂 The groomsmen wore the same suit.
Michael surprised me with an artist that created the most beautiful live paintings of our ceremony and reception. Trahern Cook of Studio Campfire, was able to capture our day in such an amazing way that we will be able to cherish forever.
One of my best friends, Jackie Trimble, of Wazz Publishing, was able to put together custom hand lettering and calligraphy on mirror signs, bridesmaid hangers/cups & table placecards.
We found our band, Flashback The Party Band, after seeing them at a friends wedding the year before. We loved them so much and knew we had to have them play at our wedding. We could not have asked for a more fun and happy experience whether we were out on the dance floor, doing the “love train” or trying to join in on the microphone with the band!
Wedding Planning Advice:
Don’t sweat the small stuff…It’s much easier said than done. I would often find myself focusing on every tiny little detail and Michael would bring me back to reality. Details and wedding planning are super important but at the end of the day this is such a special experience together, so cherish every moment of it!
Of course, we wouldn’t be able to look back on our special day without our photographer, Carly Poole of Carly Jade Photography and videographer, Andrew Busbee. From our engagement photos through our wedding night, Carly did such an amazing job and we could not have asked for a better photographer. She never turned down our requests for any picture, even when we wanted our dogs in the wedding pictures!
