Heinrich and Estee’s romantic wedding hosted at the Diamond Hill Country Venue featured farm style elements and rustic Rock Rose Succulents inspired by their fond childhood memories of growing up barefoot on a farm.
Succulents are such a fantastic wedding floral: rich in colours, delightful textures and the perfect companion to other decor and florals. Take a look at these Succulent Wedding Theme: Bouquets, Decor and Favors Ideas for a full-blown overdose of succulent inspiration.
As lovers of the great outdoors, they wanted to keep their wedding as natural and simplistic as possible, with a Rock Rose wedding theme and colour scheme found throughout their special day, captured by Louise Vorster Photography.

Romantic Rock Roses South African Wedding Ceremony
Romantic Origami Bird Hanging Decor: Their beautiful wedding ceremony chapel venue was decorated with endless floating origami birds suspended from up above from “rosyntjiebos” branches with grass lanes running down the aisle. Estee says, “We could fold an origami bird in our sleep, hehe. At family gatherings we would gather everybody together around a big table, give a short tutorial and have folding competitions. Great fun and lots of laughter!“
Heinrich and Estee’s Love Story
Estee reveals the tale of how their paths crossed and they fell in love: We became great friends from the first day we started to study Law together. We were good friends for about 3 years and then he played Johnny Cash’s Ring of Fire on his guitar… And I felt the first butterfly. The butterflies grew and so did the love… After 10 years it is still growing every day!
The Tale Of Their Proposal
Heinrich popped the big question over a morning stroll: A simple morning walk through the bushveld on my parents’ farm turned into a magical moment under a Camelthorn Tree with my husband-to-be on his knee. He nagged me the whole morning to go for a walk with him, I wanted to sleep late and wasn’t very cooperative. Eventually he got me up and as we were walking I could see him fiddling with something in his pocket and the next moment he turned around and popped the question.
Rock Roses and Romance South African Wedding Reception
Succulent Rock Roses Wedding Decor: The couple tried to keep their South African wedding as “close to home” as possible. Most of the decorations were either handmade or collected from a special place. The tables were set with homemade hessian runners, wooden logs and river rocks, which were softened with Rock Roses, moss, Lisiantus and LOTS of candles. The wooden logs were picked up from Estee’s parents’ farm after they walked around for hours in the bush. Rocks were collected from their river and the Rock Roses and grass were homegrown and nurtured, specially for their wedding day.
(Above) Romantic South African Wedding Favours: Guests were treated with bottles of homemade Marula jelly and honey from Estee’ brother’s bees.
(Above) Rusted Tin Wedding Decor: Rusted tin cans were used to display the delicate florals on their wedding tables, creating a perfect contrast.
(Above Left) Cheese Wedding Cake: A grand wedding cake created from tiers of cheese wheels was decorated with succulents and fruits.
Real Bride, Estee’s, Tips For Brides-To-Be
- Don’t be too fussy about things. Even though the details are very important, don’t sweat the small stuff. If something doesn’t turn out exactly as you thought it would, embrace the change and go with it.
- Don’t shop around too much. You usually go back to the first choice you liked.
- Try some wedding DIY projects. You might just amaze yourself… everybody has a creative streak.
