It’s all in the eyes! That’s according to Lynsey Le Keux, owner of LeKeux Events and of The Vintage Salon in the UK, which offers vintage-inspired makeovers, pin up shoots, hen parties and bridal styling from their 1950s styled salon.
As a key contributor of Vintage Bridal Hair & Make Up Tips {1920s to 1950s} for our digital Vintage Wedding Magazine & Bridal Guide, she shares a vintage look from a bygone era for your special day! Follow her 5 easy steps to achieving perfectly flicked eyeliner to replicate this key vintage-inspired style reminiscent of sex kittens, screen sirens and vintage goddesses.
DIY Flicked Eyeliner Tutorial
Step 1: Apply your Eyeshadow
Start with a fleshtoned eyeshadow, which you use to cover the eyelid from the lashes to the brow. Then take a light taupe or beige shadow and gently blend around the line of the eye socket to contour the eye and really make them pop!
Step 2: Apply your Gel Eyeliner
Using a gel eyeliner paint for best results, stretch the eyelid outward and slowly stroke a slim line directly above your lashes from the outer end to the inner corner of your eye.
Step 3: Fill in Rough Edges & Gaps
Take your time to fill in any rough edges or gaps. “A great tip that will help you to see and work best with the eyelid, is to place your mirror flat on a table, look down and draw the line on,” says Lynsey, The Vintage Salon, UK.
Step 4: Allow to Dry
To prevent the gel eye liner paint from imprinting onto your lid, keep your eyes nearly closed and allow the liner to dry for a minute or two.
Step 5: Create your Flick
Stretching the lid upward toward the outer end of your brow, draw a slim line upward toward the end of your brow. Your flick should be almost vertical when your eyes are closed. Remember even the youngest, tautest skin around the eye droops slightly so if you draw a line horizontally from the edge of your eyes for your flick, when you open the lids fully the line will automatically point slightly downward.
When you’re happy with the length of the flick, fill in any gaps and leave to dry again. Finally, dust your eyes with face powder to seal.
