Romy and Clynt’s Love Story
Romy and Clynt have known each other since she was 10 years old. After drifting apart after school, the couple ran into each other about 7 years later. Although they were both in other relationships, a friendship was sparked and eventually when the timing was right, a beautiful romance grew between them. “If anyone would have told me as a young girl that he was the man I was going to marry I would never have believed them, we were very different! I often think how crazy it is – all the years I spent looking for the man of my dreams and dating all the frogs, when my prince charming was so close!” shares Romy.
The Story of their Proposal
Romy shares the story of Clynt’s proposal: “Clynt arranged an after-work group hike up East Fort in Hout Bay, so I didn’t suspect a thing” says Romy. After running late at work, she met Clynt at the at the start of the hike who told her that the others had gone on ahead and that they would catch up. Halfway up the mountain, Clynt disappeared into a bush and emerged with a red rose and picnic basket, which caused Romy’s heart to start racing! As they reached a magnificent vantage point, Clynt placed earphones into her ears, played Romy their favourite song and presented her with a beautiful card. When she looked up from reading the card, Clynt was bending on one knee! A shocking, yet incredibly special moment!
West Coast Beach Party Wedding Reception
With a huge focus on creating a comfortable ambience and mood, their wedding reception was fun and relaxed likened to having an at-home celebration! Romy shares one of the highlights of their wedding, “…when the best man stood up to serenade the groom to a rendition of the song, Great Balls of Fire!”. A self-confessed DIY-lover, Romy shares their best DIY wedding decorations.

They made the cards by printing their message on recycled cardboard, wrapping it in a doily and tying each with a ribbon.
(Above) DIY Guest Place Settings: Each guest’s name was embossed on a heart-shape that was cut from lace serviettes and placed amidst the prongs of a fork for table names.
(Above) DIY Flower Tin Cans: Old cans were spray painted in all shades of nude metallics and then decorated with lace, ribbons and all things ‘vintagey’ – to be filled with mismatched indigenous flowers.
(Above) DIY Centrepieces: Displayed upon white wooden blocks, the flower centrepieces were created using hessian or burlap, ribbon, beads, paper heart shapes with the couple’s initials printed on, and strips of paper that read Love and xoxox. Each centrepiece was filled with a small bouquet of Lilies and Baby’s Breath.
Real Bride, Romy’s Top Tips for Bride’s-to-Be
- Never lose sight of the sentimentality of the day – “We managed to never lose sight of the reason for having the wedding in the first place: a celebration of our decision to spend our lives together,” says Romy.
- “Try and recreate an environment in which you are most comfortable,” advises Romy.
- “Make sure you are comfortable in your dress and shoes as it’s a LONG day,” she says.
- Choose your bridesmaids carefully – She explains that this is important as they play a huge role and need to be selfless for a day.
- “It all starts with a guest list” – Forget the obligatory invites and stick to your core friends and family, says Romy.
- Negotiate on things like corkage – “If you can bring in your own wines and champagne, then do,” suggests Romy.
- Skip dessert to keep costs down – Romy tells us, “I found that no one ate much of the dessert!”
- Romy shares that, “There is always magic in the detail.” – The more personal the better!
