Handmade Celebration of Love ♥
Dorrie and Chris’s lovely purple and grey DIY wedding was filled with handcrafted touches from start to finish. Inspired by their venue, The Maxwell House, they wanted their classic wedding to reflect the beauty of the location. Photographer Peterson Design & Photography also designed their lovely purple, white and grey wedding stationery which we adore. We also absolutely love that for their guestbook, the couple had loved ones write on fabric squares that were used to create a special quilt. So special!
“We incorporated a lot of personal touches through DIY projects,” shares the lovely bride, Dorrie. “By placing photographs of ourselves around the Maxwell House we made the venue feel like it was our own home which we were opening up for our wedding. Every detail of this wedding was either made by us, friends or handmade and purchased through Etsy.”
Congrats to the lovely couple!

Purple and Gray DIY Wedding
Love Story: We met through a mutual friend and dated for a few years. Later, while we were traveling in Europe, I really wanted to visit the Lock Bridge in Paris but we weren’t able to fit it into our itinerary. However, while in Malta on a beautiful bridge overlooking the city and the setting sun, Chris presented me with an engraved lock and asked me to be his wife. He proposed with my great-grandmother’s stunning engagement ring, and of course I said yes!
Bridal Style: I chose my dress at David’s Bridal after trying on a variety of different styles. My biggest requirement was that the dress have no train as I didn’t want to worry about tripping over it or pinning it up all day. I also chose to wear a lace bolero that I purchased on Etsy to have some extra lace and coverage. It went perfectly with my dress.
Wedding Bouquet and Flowers: My friend Mara designed all of our flower arrangements (with the exception of the succulents in pots which we DIYed). For my bouquet I wanted white with touches of purple and for the bridesmaids and throughout the other flower decor I wanted purples and grey.
Wedding Ceremony: Our ceremony was indoors in the main foyer of the Maxwell House. We kept the decor of the ceremony minimal as we wanted to allow the beauty of the home to speak for itself. My matron of honor, Devon, who is a classically trained opera singer, performed a piece during our ceremony.
Wedding Reception: Because we did a first look and all of our bridal party photos before the ceremony, we were able to join our guests right away for cocktail hour inside one of the main ballrooms in the Maxwell House. Our reception was both indoors and outdoors with the tables for dinner out on the back patio of the venue and the dance floor and cake inside one of the ballrooms. We had a pasta bar for our guests (we love pasta!) and guests were able to customize their own particular pasta dish which was then made for them on the spot! Our favors were little bottles of wine with stoppers that were labeled with labels made by Chris’ parents business.
