Beach Wedding Escort Cards

Easy DIY Beach Wedding Escort Cards

Time to Complete: Less than 1 minute per side to spray, plus drying time
Skill Level: Very Easy

We’re seriously crushing on these easy DIY beach wedding escort cards made from little plastic sea animals which have been spray-painted gold. These gorgeous gold fella’s take seconds to spray paint, and are totally transformed from drab to fab in moments.

Once they’re dry they can be used as escort cards to help your guests find their tables, or accompany place cards at each guest’s seat to help them identify which seat is theirs. In fact, you should totally check out this real wedding to have a look at just how awesome these gold painted animals are as place cards.

(If you’re forgoing traditional seating, make sure you check out our original and fun take on the ‘pick a seat sign’. It’s a free printable just for you!)

MATERIALS: DIY Easy DIY Beach Wedding Escort Cards

  • Plastic sea animals.  (You can also grab these at most toy stores or even at your local dollar store.)
  • Rust-oleum Metallic Gold spray paint
  • Newspaper to spray paint the sea animals on
  • Pretty paper or cardstock to write each guest’s name and table number on
  • Scissors to cut the cardstock
  • Gold bakers twine, ribbon or string of your choosing
  • A paper punch

Instructions:

  1. Set plastic sea creatures on newspaper and spray with metallic gold spray paint.  Spray the top and sides, allow to dry and then flip over to spray the bottom. It’s best to do this outside, in a well ventilated area. (Make sure you read and follow the usage and safety instructions on the can of paint that you have purchased.)
  2. Create your escort cards by ruling soft pencil lines to divide a pretty piece of paper or cardstock into equal rectangular strips. Add each guest’s name and table number to a strip to create a little tag. You could also do this on your computer and print. Cut out each tag and use a punch to create a hole through which you’ll thread you bakers twine or ribbon.
  3. Affix the escort cards to your pretty gold sea creatures with twine.
  4. Display in a large, flat basket or shallow wooden box filled with sea sand, and you’re done. If you’re setting these up in a display area of their own, try adding a few candles to vintage glass bottles filled with sand or lots of pretty sand filled tumblers with votives for a romantic, intimate ambiance.

I love this idea and hope to use it for my wedding coming up in May. Did you have any issues with the “dried” spray paint feeling sticky? Wondering if I might need to use a plastic primer first? Or using a top coat to seal it?
