Country Chic Burlap & Lace DIY Wedding Reception
Real Bride Advice: Jess tells us that there is no such thing as the “perfect” venue. She advises all brides-to-be to make a list of their wants and needs and pick their top three. The top three things that Jess looked for in a wedding venue were: (1) The venue needed to have a rustic & outdoorsy look and feel, (2) The freedom to decorate the venue and (3) The freedom to pick her own caterer.
(Above) DIY Vintage Seating Chart: They created these stylish stamped seating tags and pegged them in rustic frames.
(Above) DIY Guest Sign-in-Book: Jess’s sister and maid-of-honor, custom-made their guest sign-in-book that was displayed on a rustic table. Guests could write personal messages to the couple and place them in a birdcage.
(Above) DIY Vintage Country-Chic Wedding Favors: Their hand-crafted wedding favors were flower-stamped kraft paper bags filled with home-made heart-shaped bird seeds along with a few sunflower seeds that their guests could plant and watch grow. Each gift was packaged in a bag that was sealed with a paper doily and clothing peg that was stamped with the words -“spread the love”. To learn how to make these heart-shaped bird seed wedding favors for your special day, take a look at No. 23 of our 24 DIY Love Birds Wedding Theme Ideas.
Vintage-inspired photos of the couple were displayed around their reception venue as decor. Jess and Cam also collected vintage decor and furniture from second-hand stores, flea markets and online to place around their venue, creating different spaces in which their guests could enjoy.
(Above) Their table setting was a combination of creams and whites. Lace was a key feature on their tables, as well as painted bottles and vases to achieve a vintage feel.
(Above) DIY Vintage Table Numbers: Vintage books with numbering on the covers were used as stylish table number decor.
(Above) The attention to detail was incredible. The couple had old vintage crates and metal buckets filled with flowers displayed here and there.
(Above) DIY Vintage Dessert Table: The dessert table was a collection of vintage cabinet and table furniture upon which cakes, plates and pies were deliciously displayed.

(Above) DIY Catering on a Budget: Jess shares that as catering can be the most expensive part of your wedding, brides-to-be should “opt for a buffet and remember that you don’t need to order too much food”. If you’re allowed to bring in your own dessert, she suggests that you rely on your best baker friends and family to contribute some pies or bite-sized treats.
(Below) DIY Vintage Food Labels: They created their own pie and cheese labels for their buffet tables. They even had a vintage popcorn machine! Yay!
Country Chic Burlap & Lace DIY Wedding Photo Booth
DIY Photo Booth Backdrop & Props: They encouraged their guests to take advantage of the vintage photo booth, which had a polaroid camera. It was a huge hit! Guests could take photos and then stick their pics in the guest book with fun and colorful washi tape and leave a personalized message. Jess says that “It’s the best book EVER!!”. They absolutely loved going through all of the pictures and reading all of their guest’s messages.

And they lived happily ever after
As the wedding celebrations came to a close, the couple jumped up, shook their tails and headed for the open air for a few special shots with their photographer and bridal party!
Wedding Song & Dance: As they both share a crazy love for Radiohead‘s music, Jess says that it seemed only natural for her to walk down the aisle to “The Reckoner” song. Later they performed a surprise swing dance number, which they had been practicing with a dance instructor for 6 months!

Although challenging at times, Jess and Cam reveal that their DIY journey was worth all the sweat and tears!
