Alana’s Signature Style

When asked to describe her signature design style, Alana tells us that the most important thing is for her to “find a way to best portray and enhance the bride’s personality,” while staying true to who she is as a designer.

Her romantic, modern, feminine and individualistic designs are intrinsic to who she is as a designer.

What Advice Do You Have For The Bride Trying To Choose The Perfect Wedding Gown?

  • “Start by trying on different styles and silhouettes in order to understand what works best on your specific figure,” advises Alana.
  • Decide between custom-made or off-the-rail – “Consider whether you would like a dress custom made for you or whether you would like to purchase one off-the-rail dress,” says Alana. If you are someone who struggles with visualising a design or idea, she suggests looking for a dress that’s already made, as it will save you a lot of stress.
  • Bridal Tip Research Several DesignersResearch several designers before setting up a consultation – If you would like to have a dress designed, Alana insists that you should research several designers by “really looking at their use of fabrics, design style and detail” before setting up a consultation with a designer. • Choose a designer that you relate to and feel comfortable with – She says that it is important that you have the confidence to be open and honest with your designer.

What Are The Season’s Wedding Dress Trends?

  • “Shorter dresses such as mini’s, tea length (below the knee) dresses and ballerina length (above the ankle) dresses really stands out for me,” says Alana.
  • Soft, sheer, flowing and rich quality fabrics as opposed to stiff, shiny and ‘poufy’ fabrics are on trend.
  • “Stronger colours such a grey, coral and even black have become more and more popular,” points out Alana.
  • Ornate and ‘antique’ inspired embellishments such as jewelled cap sleeves, broaches and headpieces are also a stunning trend.

What bridal accessories are popular at the moment?

“Headpieces are big at the moment,” reveals Alana, with anything from a soft flower to something more ornate like a jewel hairpin being the perfect addition to completing your bridal look. She adds that headpieces incorporating feathers, pearls, crystals or lace are popular right now.
