Jackie and Tyler’s bohemian beach wedding was a destination wedding celebration in Cancun, Mexico. They exchanged vows on a gazebo on the beach, beneath geometric chandeliers and naked amber bulbs at Dreams Riviera/Cancun Resort and Spa . Their organic, yet industrial outdoor wedding reception was held on a deck overlooking the ocean. Tables were filled organic greens and geometric decor in shades of copper, rose gold and natural earth tones for my colors.
Jackie and Tyler’s florals really popped: “We had mixtures of dark purple and green succulents, bright salmon colored flowers, and dark blue and red tones too with the more cactus-like flowers! Hard to even describe their beauty!”
The couple’s photographer, Dawn Derbyshire, came all the way from Pittsburgh to shoot this gorgeous couple’s wedding. “Dawn is the most talented human being and I knew she would capture our day perfectly. Also, our wedding planner from the Dreams Resort, Delia, made planning this a breeze. She got my vision quickly and put it all together flawlessly. I had nothing to worry about!”
Guys, grab your sunnies and something sweet to sip on – we’re about to take a trip to the beautiful beaches of Mexico!
Boho Beach Wedding in Cancun, Mexico
Love Story: We met five years ago at a restaurant and began texting and going on frequent dates. Bring that he was finishing up his bachelors degree and I was already a few years into my hairstyling career, I wasn’t sure just how serious this relationship was going to be. About a month into dating, on Easter to be exact, Tyler made a treasure hunt for me to wake up to that led to an Easter basket that he had made for me. It made me realized just how serious he was and how much he must care about me! After 4 years, a house, and a dog, Tyler proposed to me on our front porch on Easter! It’s our special holiday!
Bouquet: My keepsake bouquets were hand picked from an Etsy shop called Southern Girl Weddings. They are all made from artificial flowers! I wanted to be able to take them with me to Mexico and bring them back, too! They were colorful succulents, bright, peachy flowers, blue globe thistles and lots of deep tones that added to the bouquet as well. My bouquet was wrapped in my Mom’s old veil.
Hair and Make Up: Being a hairstylist and make-up artist, this is my area of expertise! I wanted my hair down, waved slightly, and parted down the center for my bohemian headpiece that went across my forehead. My makeup had to be natural and look like me, but fierce, of course! Contour and lashes to boot!
Wedding Dress: My dress came from Sorelle Bridal in Washington, PA. I wanted something form fitting, light weight, bohemian and simple. My dress was Natural White lace and had a low cut front and back with a gorgeous long, thin train that I could carry and hold in one hand. On my wedding day the dress fit like a glove and made me feel like a mermaid.
Bridesmaid Dresses: The bridesmaids all wore dresses from Show Me Your MuMu Bridal online. I told them the three colors that I liked and they all chose whatever dress fit their personal style best! I chose ivory/nude, blush, and light cappuccino colors. I got their gold necklaces and rings, which were all different, from a little boutique called Figleaf, and the different earrings from Free People. The girls all had their hair and makeup how ever they wanted and each one of them looked stunning.
Grooms Attire: My groom, Tyler, and the rest of the groomsmen wore a light sand gray suit which were a tropical blend material, with an off white, collared linen undershirt. They all had camel colored belts, shoes, and wooden watches. Tyler looked more dashing than ever!
Copper, Geometric + Boho Beach Wedding Ceremony
At our wedding ceremony site we had a large gazebo with geometric chandeliers hanging from the center. It contained amber bulbs and taupe/rose-gold drapes tacked to each inner corner, over-looking the beautiful beach and blue ocean below.
The chairs for the guests were copper industrial chairs and the aisle was lined with gold lanterns and terrariums filled with succulents and greenery.
On the morning of their wedding Jackie woke up from a sleep over with her bridesmaids, put on their bikinis, grabbed a coffee and headed down to the beach! “We had a mimosa or two on the swings (yes swings!) at the beach bar and hung out with some other friends that were at the resort for the big day. All the while staying clear of seeing my groom! He, waking up a little later, had Bloody Mary’s at breakfast with the guys and headed for the pool! Around noon I headed to the spa with my girls and enjoyed and hour-long relaxation massage. I was in heaven. Who gets to do that during the big day!? After my zen-sesh, I went up to my room and showered and started getting ready with all of the bridesmaids.”
Wedding Ceremony: Before I knew it, 6:00pm came around and I was meeting my Dad for a look before walking down the aisle. I caught a glimpse of the gazebo where the ceremony music had already started playing and it looked breathtaking. I walked down the aisle to “Like Real People Do” by Hozier.

We wrote our own vows and both had a little (okay maybe more than a little) bit of humor. Our vows came straight from our hearts! We had a sand ceremony where we each poured different colored sand ( our being white and gold) into a glass vase, symbolizing both of our lives blending together as one. My mother read a bible verse during the beginning of our ceremony.

We had a photo session start on the gorgeous over-look of the beach where our ceremony was and then went down by the water for a bit more. They sky was starting to dim by this point so we finished up with pictures and headed down to the cocktail hour! As I approached the beach deck (the location for our cocktail hour and reception) I saw all of the gorgeous decor!

Seating Chart: For a seating chart, I used small hand cut wooden rounds. They were stamped with the guests names and branded with the table number that they were to sit at.
Guest Book: Instead of a guest book we had a beautiful wedding guestbook map, showing where we live and the location we were getting married. The guests signed in gold or rose-gold ink on the matting around the artwork.
Wedding Reception: The wedding reception was on a big wooden deck just steps up from the beach! The bar was stocked with liquors, beer and our personal wedding drinks: Mo{heat}o’s and {bae}breeze’s!
The designed wooden tables were set with centerpieces that hung from gold bars, terrariums filled with succulents, gold and rose gold little candle holder, and clear places over tan linen napkins and banana leaves.
Amber bulbs were strung across the entire deck and a beautiful display of them above our sweetheart table.
Each table had one hand made, moss-covered table number to let the guests know where to sit!
Our reception was just so fun! Once the dinner was over, our guests sprinted to the dance floor. It was insane. The bartenders at the reception served us right on the dance floor. You never had to leave. It was truly something out of this world.
Advice for couples planning a destination wedding: If you are doing a destination wedding with an awesome planner, don’t worry too much! I can’t say enough good things about my wedding planner, Delia Zegarra, from the Dreams Rivier/Cancun resort. We planned this wedding in about 6 emails! It was unreal. I got WAY more than I ever expected from the resort and everything was even better than I could have dreamed it. The decor, the food, the service, the location – it all just blew me away.
