Erane tells us that the hottest tip for going vintage in your style, is to “incorporate it with your own style”. Especially when choosing a 1920’s vintage trend, she advises that you keep it simple.
Continuing upon our {Vintage Bride} 1920s Bridal Look – The Glamour of Old to Life, read further below to learn a few of Erane’s hair and make-up magic tricks.
1. Start with the foundation – The skin is a big focus for this season’s vintage trend. “The 1920’s look is all about perfect porcelain skin”, reveals Erane. Get the look by using a stipple brush to apply the foundation to ensure that the foundation is not too heavy.
2. Blusher on the cheeks – The secret weapon that can never be forgotten. Use soft matte colours, such as pinks and corals, which Erane says work best. Her favourite colour to use is MAC Tenderling blusher. “It is soft, romantic and enhances the cheeks beautifully!”
3. Contouring – When opting for a 20’s or 30’s look, do not forget to contour with a bronzer as it enhances the cheekbone and gives you that structured look. Erane suggests using “the good old ‘suck in the cheek’ technique to get the proper placement”.
4. Use soft matte highlighters on your brow bone and cheeks – Erane recommends that you skip the shimmery shades to ensure that you get that romantic girl-next-door look.
5. Keep the eye nude, with basic matte highlighters and focus on that thin crisp liquid line using black, which she says works best. Her favourite to use is MAC BruleEye shadow.
6. Enhance the brows and elongate it at the ends – Erane loves to use the MAC impeccable brow pencil.
7. Create definition by using a liquid line – preferably a black liquid liner like the MAC Blacktrack fluid line, which she advises you use.
8. Enhance those kissable lips with a bright red lip – Start with using a lip liner to ensure a proper shape and a longer lasting look. She states that you should be bold and use a pop colour on your lips, such as a red, bright coral or pink, which all works beautifully. “Remember, the lips can make or break the look”, says Erane.
9. Opt for a long lasting or pro long lipstick when going bright. “You don’t want your groom to also walk around with a coral lip!”, says Erane.
10. Use a matte lipstick as this does not run as easily and keeps up with the proper 1920’s trend. Her favourite pencil to use is the MAC Redd lip liner, which Erane loves to pair with the MAC Russian Red lipstick.
11. Keep a mini lipstick on hand for touch ups. As a make-up artist, Erane always tries to ensure that she gives her bride and bridesmaids touch-up mini lipsticks, especially when going for a bright colour that can fade easily.
12. Match your nail colour by using a complimentary shade like the new ESSIE “Enuf is Enuf”, says Erane.
13. Touch up your roots, or add some highlights 1 ½ weeks before the big day.
14. Have a trim if you have been growing your hair. If opting for a down style, she suggests that you have some layers cut in to add some texture and some volume.
15. Finally, style your hair into a beautiful wavy boho up-do. Erane recommends using your GHD broad styler to create those perfect locks. “I always pair it with the GHD Curl Hold spray to ensure a long lasting curl, and also protect the hair,” shares Erane.
