Colourful Candy Celebration
Vintage Barn Wedding
♥ ♥ ♥
Newlywed’s Kendall and Justin tied the knot on a friends farm that houses a beautiful barn in the Kwa-Zulu Natal region in South Africa.
Inspired by the charm of vintage and the colours of their favourite candy is soft pastels similar to this Pretty in Pastels – Kleinevalleij {Real Wedding} the couple dreamt up and created a South African wedding with a country feel that could be seen everywhere from the bridal attire to their wedding decor. They added their personal touch by tapping into the talents of their friends and the entire farming community, which made their day extra special.
Their friend and pastor married the pair, some friends took care of the music, the catering, decor and lent great decor props for their wedding reception. To top it all off, their friend, Lindy Truter was there to capture their photographs! Take a look at how Kendall and Justin’s glorious muted candy-coloured wedding turned out!
Vintage Candy Coloured Wedding Look
Looking naturally beautiful, Kendall wore a simple lace wedding dress with a sweetheart neckline that was completed with an elegant wedding veil, which her grandmother made. Her bridesmaids wore taupe dresses and carried cream rose bouquets that were tied with pink ribbon. Kendall’s bouquet stood out with a tinge of soft pink thanks to a few pretty pink roses.

Justin and Kendall’s Love Story and The Tale Of Their Proposal
Kendall shares their love story: “We met while we were on an outreach project with our church in Stellenbosch. Two months later we were dating and we almost immediately knew we wanted to get married. While on holiday on our family farm, he flew up to join me for a few days and organized a surprise picnic with all my favourite things at the bottom of our garden, under the rose arch. He had a ring designed with a diamond he had got from his mother. My parents also helped organise and were in on the whole thing”.
Vintage Candy Coloured Barn Wedding Reception
Vintage Candy Coloured Wedding Venue: The couple got married in a 150-year old wooden farm barn and the ceremony was held in the farmers’ country club.
Vintage Candy Coloured Wedding Flowers: The beautiful pastel candy colour wedding flowers were taken care of by Flowers by Kerry and a family friend who were given free reign. Arum lilies were especially used as they grow wild in the surrounding areas.
Vintage Candy Coloured Wedding Gifts and Favours: As wedding favours, all the guests got to help themselves to sweets from a sweet bar and to biltong that was made directly from the farm. This was a huge hit, and everyone still talks about how much biltong they could eat, as it is quite an expensive delicacy in South Africa. The couple also gave a bottle of wine away that carried personalised wine bottle labels.
Vintage Candy Coloured Wedding Décor: Their wedding reception was an amazement of muted candy-coloured hues that were found everywhere from their wedding flowers to the 100m of bunting sewed by Kendall’s mum and the colourful and yummy candy favours.
Vintage Candy Coloured Wedding Stationary: Their invites and programmes were a simple design and were printed by a family friend as a gift to the couple. The menu was written on a chalk board and the seating chart was comprised of individual name tags pegged onto a line.
Real Bride, ’S, Tips For Bride’s-To-Be
Kendall shares a few of the biggest lessons and cost-cutting tips that she learned while planning her wedding:
- Relax and enjoy it – Have fun! Everything does NOT have to be perfect. Every now and then just pause and look around, take it all in as it goes by very quickly.
- Ask friends to help – This cuts costs and makes the day more personal. Our venue and “chapel” (barn) cost us nothing, which was a great was of cutting costs. Also we saved a lot of money on the catering as it was done by a family friend.
- Have your dress made for less – I saw the dress I wanted in a wedding boutique, however, it was very expensive. I did some research and found the exact design on a website where I could have it made, at a fraction of the cost.
