Go Groomsmen Go!
Duties
♥ ♥ ♥
Brides – you and your bridesmaids needn’t have all the fun, nor should you shoulder all of the responsibilities in planning and hosting your wedding. Definitely no lone wolf, the groom has his own group of well-picked groomsmen to share in the entire exciting experience.
The groom’s equivalent to the bride’s bridesmaids, groomsmen are usually a bunch of the groom’s buddies that have been asked to jump on board, help out where needed and look good during his wedding journey. Knowing that your hubbie-to-be also has a support group of loved ones to help him prepare for and enjoy tying the knot with you is awesome. Even better, is knowing that they understand what exactly is expected of a groomsman. In this week’s Wedding Planning Series feature, we’ve created a handy list of groomsmen duties, which can be passed over to your groom and his groomsmen. May they answer the call of duty by being the best groomsmen that they can be!
Groomsmen Duties Before The Big Day
- Right-hand man to the Best Man – Play your part in assisting the best man in all of his duties, especially in hosting and funding a bachelor party to remember!
- Spoil the couple with a gift – If you haven’t planned to buy a gift for the couple yet, why not club together with the rest of the groomsmen to spoil the couple with an awesome gift for either their engagement, shower or wedding.
- Show up to the pre-wedding parties – Show up at all pre-wedding festivities such as the engagement party, couple’s shower, bachelor party and the rehearsal dinner.
- Be a real buddie – Be available to help the groom by advising, supporting and preparing him for his wedding day.
- Dress like the rest – Help decide on and fork out for your wedding attire. Remember, you’ll need to also attend your dress fittings at the specified store or designer and make sure that your suit is collected a few days before the wedding day.
- Keep an ear out for important info – Plenty of important tit-bits of info will be floating around in the lead-up to the wedding day. Make a mental note of all of them, including the on-the-day wedding photos that you’ll be required to stand in for.
- Get to know your group – If you don’t already, get to know and bond with the rest of the groomsmen so that you can have a blast at the wedding.
- Work in cahoots with the bridesmaids – Think of fun ways in which to surprise the couple to make their wedding extra special. For starters, work with the bridesmaids to dress up the couple’s getaway car for after the wedding reception.
Groomsmen Duties On The Day
- Get ready together – Meet with the groom and the rest of the groomsmen to get ready in one location.
- Escort the guests to their seats – At the ceremony, groomsmen should arrive 45 minutes earlier to help seat guests if there are no ushers. Be sure to escort guests to their seats and to the right side, if there is separate seating for the bride and groom’s side.
- Help out at the ceremony – After guest’s have been seated before the processional has begun, roll out the aisle runner and alert the guests that the ceremony is about to begin.
- Join in the processional – Escort the bridesmaids down the wedding aisle.
- Say cheese! – Smile and show your pearly whites for the wedding pics. Join in for some crazy photo poses too to create some memorable photos!
- Play Mr Nice Guy – Show your courteous side by acting as the go-to person for the wedding guests.
- Get the party started – At the wedding reception, help to fill up the dancefloor while having some fun, by dancing with your bridesmaid partner.
- Roll up your sleeves and help clean up – After the celebration is over, lend a hand to help with any clean-up if necessary
- Collect the wedding gifts – Make sure that the wedding gifts have all been collected and are loaded to be taken off to a safe place arranged by the newlyweds.
Remember it’s up to each bride and groom to decide what they expect of their wedding party, but it can be helpful to understand what the roles traditionally entail as a starting point. 🙂
I’ll definitely share this to the groomsmen! My finace is worried the guys may not know what to do. Very helpful!
