Following their previous DIY Paper Mobile Wedding Backdrop {Tutorial}, event planners and designers, Blank Canvas Event Design shares this six step tutorial for creating these pretty feather paper wedding lamps that offers a romantic lighting perfect for an intimate wedding occasion.
Although you may love your wedding venue, sometimes there may be specific structures in your venue such as the lamp shades that are fixed to the bar, which don’t suit your theme or colour scheme. To remedy this situation, follow the easy steps of their DIY tutorial below, captured by Nastassja Harvey Photography.
Step 1: Gather Your Tools
What You Will Need
- Paper: Measure the exact size of the lampshade to determine the size of the paper you will use. We used A3 sized white paper for ours.
- Scissors
- Spray paint in a colour of your choice
- Double-sided cellotape (the thin, clear kind)
Step 2:
- Fold your page lengthwise in half.
- Decide on the width and length of your ‘feathers’ and cut them accordingly (we used free hand so that we could get the feathered look, but you could also use a ruler and draw them out for yourself).
Step 3:
- Once you’ve cut up the entire length of the page, open your page and cut it in half on the fold, so that you have two lengths of feathers.
Step 4:
- Lay your feathers down on a flat surface (preferably outside on a table and on top of some newspaper) and spray them the colour you want them to be.
- Allow them dry completely.
- If you want, you can turn them over once they’ve dried and spray the other side as well.
Step 5:
- On a table, lay out a clean sheet of A3 (in our case) paper and stick a length of double-sided tape (the exact length of the paper) just above the bottom edge of the page.
- Carefully tape your first ‘feather’ to the page so that the feathers extend beyond the edge below.
- Tape another length of tape about 3cm from the top of the first ‘feather’ (depending on how dense you want the feathers to be).
- Carefully tape down the next feather.
Step 6:
- Continue to repeat step 5 until your entire blank page is now filled with feathers.
- Wrap it around the lamp shade and keep it together with more double-sided tape, staplers or even pins that are sprayed the same colour as the feathers.
