Following a bridal beauty regime is key for pulling off your desired bridal look. This week’s Wedding Planning Series feature guides you along with a beauty schedule that allows you to prepare in style. Starting up to 6 months in advance, our bridal beauty schedule covers everything from getting your hair and make-up to body and skin into tip-top bridal shape!
Remember that in the lead up to your wedding day, plenty of planning will require your attention, but be sure not to overlook yourself. As the centre of attention, you’ll want to look and feel your most beautiful and best, both inside and out, on the day! Depending on what regime you’d like to follow, take a look at these simple steps to help you transform from an engaged babe to a beautiful blushing bride!
5-6 Months Before: Bridal Beauty Regime
(Above)Shot by Vicky Dawe as seen in Vintage Bridal Hair & Make Up Tips {1920s to 1950s}With 5-6 months left before your Big Day, you’ll have enough time to experiment with a new beauty regime and to recover from it, should something go wrong.
- Hair: Try that new hair colour or cut or start growing your hair if you need longer locks for the wedding hairstyle that you envision.
- Skin: Be skin smart by starting a religious skincare routine and having a monthly facial until your wedding day. If you have any troubling skin problems such as acne, get in touch with your dermatologist to consider possible treatment options. If you have problem, mature or tired skin, try “mini peels’ such as Microdermabrasion, which are non surgical, take 15 – 20 minutes, and over a course of 5 – 10 sessions rejuvenate your skin.
- Hair Removal: If you’d like to try a new method of hair removal for your face or body such as laser, waxing or threading, then starting now is best to see how your skin reacts.
- Body: A few months of dedication towards eating healthily and exercising regularly can make the world of difference to how you’ll look and feel inside and out on your wedding day.
3 Months Before: Bridal Beauty Regime
(Above) Peach and Turquoise Wedding {Real Bride} | Shot by: Love Made Visible Photography- Hair: If you don’t already have a hairstylist in mind, book trial appointments with a few stylists for a consultation before finally booking your stylist for your wedding date. Brainstorm hairstyle options that will suit your hair and work with any headpieces or veil that you’d like to don. Be sure to arrange your wedding day hairstyling schedule with your stylist.
- Make-up: Same goes for your make-up. Go on a few make-up trials before booking your artist for your wedding date. Be sure to discuss your wedding day make-up schedule.
- Skin: Considering a tan? Start testing a self-tanning bronzer now so that you can gauge the colour you can achieve, and find a product that works best with your skin. St Tropez gradual mousse is a popular option amongst brides.
- Hair Removal: Go for a professional brow shaping to ensure that your brows have enough time to even out into a beautiful face-framing shape.
- Body: Keep up your healthy eating, water drinking and exercise beauty regime! If you’re after whiter teeth, start an at-home teeth whitening regime or consider professional options.
TIP: Take pics of yourself during your hair and make-up trials to get an idea of how you look wearing different styles.
1 Month Before: Bridal Beauty Regime
- Hair: Visit your hairstylist for a hair trial and don’t forget to take along your veil or headpiece.
- Make-up: Attend a final make-up trial with your make-up artist. If you’re planning to do your own make-up, stock up or try new make-up products to ensure that you’re practiced and perfect!
- Skin: In addition to monthly facials, continue with regularly applying your self-tanner to build up a natural-looking colour.
- Eyes: Lash extensions are wonderful to make you look like a princess! Not only do they look great in pics, but you can keep fluttering them during your honeymoon and wake up looking great with pretty eyes, even after swimming. Try testing out lash extensions from one or two different salons to see if they work for you.
2 Weeks Before: Bridal Beauty Regime
With two weeks left before your Big Day, you have just enough time to reconfirm your hair, make-up and other beauty appointments.
- Hair: Sticking to the style that you already have, get your hair trimmed and touch up your hair colour.
The Week Before: Bridal Beauty Regime
(Above) Pink and Ivory Vintage Wedding {Johannesburg} | Shot by: Moira West Photography- Skin: Have your last facial at least one week before your wedding day. Make sure it is the same facial that you’ve had before, to avoid any nasty skin reactions. Avoid experimenting with new self-tanners or spray tans the week before your wedding. Some brides opt for a spray tan two days before, but be careful as this washes off quite easily and can stain your dress. Again, going for a test run way in advance helps you understand how your skin will react, and prevents any surprises on the big day.
- Hair Removal: Have your waxing and other hair removal done, including your brow shaping to prevent redness or irritation.
- Eyes: If you’ve decided to have lash extensions, it’s time to have them applied (by the same beauty technician that applied it right for you initially) a few days to one week before your wedding day.
TIP: Ask your bridesmaids to put a wedding emergency kit of items together in case of any beauty mishaps. Check out our feature on what goes inside a Wedding Emergency Kit & Checklist {Wedding Planning Series} to learn more.
The Day Before: Bridal Beauty Regime
- Hair: Get a deep-conditioning hair treatment to nourish your locks.
- Skin: Exfoliate and moisturise your entire body.
- Body: Spoil yourself by having a lovely massage.
- Nails: Get a manicure and pedicure to ensure that your hands and tootsies are looking fab!
